Starsky & Hutch
Starsky & Hutch was a police show I remember watching occasionally as a kid. It starred Paul Michael Glaser as David Starsky and David Soul as Ken “Hutch” Hutchinson. They drove around town in this bad ass car fighting crime. They drove a tricked out red and white Ford Gran Torino. I never understood the concept of the high profile car. If you’re a cop fighting crime, don’t you want to be as inconspicuous as possible? The show began in 1975 and, after a whole lot of bitching and moaning from Paul Michael Glaser, ended in 1979.
There have been many shows featuring two hot dudes. There was Alias Smith & Jones which starred Pete Duel and Ben Murphy. Both were pretty hot and I don’t know if there was a clear favorite. There was Emergency that starred Randy Mantooth and Kevin Tighe where Mantooth was the clear favorite. Miami Vice starred Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas. Even though he’s a big jerk, I think Don Johnson was the most popular. Then there was Fred and Barney……
The Cast
I think Paul Michael Glaser was the most popular of Starsky & Hutch. Many liked him the best because of his personality, his pretty eyes, and of course, the hot car. Starsky was too hairy for me. He also seemed kind of tiny.
Others liked David Soul the best because he seemed sweet. I wonder if his wife thought he was sweet when he was beating her. My bad. Others liked him because he could play guitar and sing. I did think he had a pretty voice. My sister Lori really liked him and bought his albums. Don’t give up on us baby….. I remember the one album cover where he had a moustache. What’s up with that? He looked like a porn star. Bow chick a bow wow.
Some liked Huggy Bear the most. Huggy Bear was a police snitch and a mack daddy pimp. My mom used to call him Snuggy Bear. A snuggy in my day wasn’t a blanket. It was when your underwear got stuck up in your butt crack.
Guest Stars
Some of the guest stars who appeared on the show were Suzanne Somers, Alex Rocco, Patrick Laborteaux, Tom Ligon, Adrian Zmed, Nancy McKeon, and Kristy McNichol.
A Starsky & Hutch movie came out in 2004 which starred Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson. I haven’t seen it but I think it did okay at the box office. Seems like it would be a silly comedy with those two as Starsky & Hutch.
All four seasons of the original show are available on DVD. I may just buy me a couple at some point. I don’t know if I need ALL of the seasons like I do with The Brady Bunch, The Partridge Family, Friends, Saved By the Bell, and other really important shows, but I wouldn’t mind owning the first two seasons. Time to go shop on eBay.
