Shane McDermott
I just listed a Shane McDermott pinup this morning on ZTAMS and realized I don’t have a clue about him. I do know I have trouble telling him apart from Shane Conrad. They were both popular in the 90’s and they look similar to me. Same hair or something. Anyway, let’s find out stuff on McDermott. FYI, a lot of my info for this blog came from this article.
Born Shane Francis McDermott in Middletown, New York on April 24, 1976, this Shane was only in the biz a short time. His credits on IMDB only span six years from 1990 to 1996. Shane is best known for Swans Crossing (TV show) and the movie Airborne. He ended his career on the soap opera All My Children.
McDermott’s acting career began in New York City. He worked as a Ford Model doing print ads before getting his first acting credit which was on an episode of The Baby-Sitters Club. His big roles came next, first portraying Garrett Booth on the TV show Swans Crossing and then as Mitchell Goosen in the movie Airborne. McDermott did an episode of Law & Order and finished up his brief acting career on All My Children.
Shane moved to the best (West) coast after high school for the All My Children gig. He says he lived the California Dream for two years but found it hard to get work. He’s also quoted on IMDB as saying he quit acting because he wanted a simpler life and a family. I guess all that is probably true. He sounds like a mature person, even at that young age.
Out of Hollywood
Shane McDermott traveled to Galveston Island (near Houston, Texas) in 2003 to attend his sister’s wedding. I guess he loved it there because shortly after, he was living there full time. He received his real estate license in 2004 and has been kicking butt selling homes ever since.
Do you know who else went into real estate? My first teen idol love, Tony DeFranco. Another of my early idol crushes, Ian Mitchell of The Bay City Rollers, also dabbled a bit in real estate.
In 2011, Shane McDermott married his longtime girlfriend Laura Hughes. They now have two sons together. Sounds like he really did want to settle down with a simpler life and family. Kudos to him for realizing his true dreams and going after them. He didn’t let Hollywood suck him in. He tried it out and got some experience and then moved on. Hey, it’s not for everyone.
