BBMak
I sell their pinups but really know nothing about the boy band BBMak. I always have to look up their names each time I list a pinup. Let’s learn about BBMak together. You’re welcome.
BBMak is a trio of boys. I knew that. Smort. They are an English boy band originating in Liverpool, England in the late 1990’s. The three members are Christian Burns, Mark Barry, and Stephen “Ste” McNally. I’m not sure the origin of their group name, but I’m going to guess it’s a combo of their last names. B for Barry, B for Burns, and then Mak for the Mc in McNally.
It seems the group was really only big for a few years. They sold a bunch of albums and had some hit singles from 1999 to 2003. They broke up in 2003 though I’m not sure the reason. I guess they stayed close during their long hiatus so it’s not like they broke up because they hated each other. Does anyone know the reason?
Members
Mark Anthony Luke Barry, born in Manchester, England on October 26, 1978 is my favorite. I don’t know much about him, but he’s way into fitness and nutrition and he loves Stevie Wonder. Very cool.
Christian Anthony Burns, born in Wigan, England on January 18, 1974 is a singer and songwriter. After BBMak ended in 2003, he collaborated with several different artists as well as released a solo album in 2013. Another solo album was to be released last year [2019] though I’m not sure of its status.
Stephen Patrick McNally, born in Liverpool, England on July 4, 1978 is also a singer and songwriter. After the end of BBMak in 2003, Ste continued with his music. In 2009, he became the lead singer for 10 Reasons to Live. That group released several singles and albums during their time together.
Current BBMak
BBMak is back together! The boys got back together in 2018 after a 15-year hiatus. I guess seeing the return of The Backstreet Boys, New Kids on the Block, Westlife, and other boy bands inspired them. During the hiatus Christian and Ste stayed in the music business while Mark went into the personal training business. The boys (I guess I should start calling them men) stayed in touch during the split.
BBMak is alive and touring. On their Facebook page, it shows their rescheduled Fall 2020 dates (rescheduled due to Covid-19). The Facebook account is pretty active and current. They also seem to dabble a bit on Twitter but I’m not sure what other social media they are involved in. If you’re a fan, you should definitely join their Facebook page. The boys themselves (allegedly) are posting to Twitter and Facebook.
So……I’m not sure that I’ve learned much. I listened to their biggest hit here in the States, Back Here, and I don’t believe I’ve ever heard it before. It doesn’t sound familiar at all, though it’s a nice song. Anyway, BBMak seem like nice guys and I hope this second time around for them is even better than the first.
UPDATE
My new friend and BBMak Superfan, Laura, has cleared up some of my questions. BBMak broke up simply because they needed a break after being on the go so much. Laura says she can confirm 100% that the interactions you see on social media are actually them. BBMak released their third album, Powerstation, last year.
From Laura: “In addition to BBMak, Ste is in a band called 10 Reasons to Live, has a small recording/producing company called Firebox, and teaches at a martial arts studio. He’s married with two boys. Christian is super busy in the music business – he is in the bands All Hail the Silence and The Blind Love, and also does solo music. Mark is still a fitness instructor and has two very young sons.”
Thanks for the info, Laura!
