The Moffatts

The Moffatts

I’ll be honest. I’ve never heard the music of the band The Moffatts. I’ve heard OF them but I’ve just never heard their music. Maybe I have and just don’t know it. I’ve seen The Moffatts a lot in the teen magazines and pinups I sell in my eBay store, but never really knew much about them. Researching for this blog has opened my eyes and mind to the world of The Moffatt Brothers.

The Moffatts are comprised of brothers Scott, Clint, Bob, and Dave Moffatt. They are a band from British Columbia, Canada. I once had a boyfriend in Victoria, British Columbia. It’s beautiful there. Anyway, Scott is the oldest of the boys. He was born on March 20, 1983. What a grandpa.

The other three boys are triplets. I did not know that until I researched for this writing. I think that’s way cool. Bob, Clint, and Dave were born on March 8, 1984. Bob and Clint are identical twins while Dave is a fraternal triplet. I wonder how that makes him feel. I wonder if he feels inferior to the twins. He should feel unique and spectacular.

The Moffatts started out as a country band when they were quite young and started appearing on stage as early as 1987. They released some albums in the mid to late 90’s and then disbanded in 2001. The End. Just kidding!

The Beginning and the End

The Moffatt’s parents divorced in 1996 and the boys lived mainly with their father who was also the band’s manager. The boys left the country scene in their early teens and started dabbling in pop. They also started performing more playing their own instruments. Scott was on lead guitar, Dave was on keys, Clint on bass, and Bob on drums.

The Moffatts were huge in Asia. They were top of the charts in Thailand, Taiwan, Malaysia, and Indonesia from 1998-2000.

The band broke up on August 25, 2001. I don’t think it was ever officially stated why, but many believe it was because Dave publicly came out as gay. Dad (manager and jerk) had a problem with this so the band ended and Dave was basically disowned. Way to be a parent. Sounds like Dad pushed the band from the very beginning. I wonder if he knows Joe Jackson.

In February 2017, all of the boys except Dave reunited and went on tour. I guess Dave became a yoga instructor. He also hosted a karaoke night at a gay bar as well as competed on Canadian Idol where he placed in the top 32.

I’m happy because it seems all of the boys still have music in their life. Maybe they all just need a little break and can then reunite (without Dad if he has trouble with gay people). Even if they don’t reunite, it would be cool to hear from them individually in the future.
