Just One of the Guys
Just One of the Guys was one of my favorite movies of the 80’s. It’s pretty silly, there’s lots of bad acting, it didn’t do well at the box office, but I really like it. I loved the performance of the main character’s horny little brother. He was the best part of the movie.
This movie was ranked number 48 on Entertainment Weekly’s list of 50 Best High School Movies. I don’t know about that, but whatever. The movie’s tagline was “Terri Griffith is about to go where no woman has gone before”. Terri is the main character in the movie. She thinks she’s being discriminated against, so she becomes a dude. She’s a high school journalist and when her teachers don’t think her writing is awesome, she enrolls at another school and becomes a boy. Guess what? Her writing still sucks.
Terri Griffith was played by Joyce Hyser. She/He plays a high school student but was almost 30 when she made this movie. She didn’t do a whole lot after this movie. She was in a season of L.A. Law and a few small parts here and there. She said life was never the same after Just One of the Guys and how everyone kept looking at her chest. (She shows her boobies at the end of the movie.) Joyce did have a small role in CSI in 2011. She played a woman pretending to be a man. Funny.
Ball Scratcher
As mentioned earlier, the best part of the movie was Terri’s little brother, Buddy. He was a horny little boy who taught his older sister how to scratch her balls. Nice. That’s what brothers are for. Buddy was played by Billy Jayne or Billy Jacoby. They’re the same person. He hasn’t done a whole lot lately either. He did appear in several episodes of Silver Spoons and Parker Lewis Can’t Lose after this movie, but not a whole lot of other stuff.
The Bully
Typecast 80’s blonde bully Billy Zabka played Greg Tolan in the movie. He picks on everyone in this movie just like he did in Karate Kid. There’s actually a Karate Kid reference in here when Sandy (girl who likes Terry) says that he (she) looks like that kid from the Karate Kid movies. Anyway, bully Greg gets in a fight with Terri/Terry at the end of the movie. She shows people her boobies and everything is all better.
The Nerd
Clayton Rohner plays cute and dorky nerd Rick Morehouse. While he’s not a well-known actor, he has gone on to appear in a lot of stuff. And he looks really hot now with his grey hair.
The Boyfriend
Leigh McCloskey, who played Terri’s boyfriend, is probably the most successful actor to come from this movie. He went on to be in a little show called Dallas. He’s been on a lot of other shows as well. BTW, Leigh was 30 when he made this movie. He has that baby face, so I guess he could get away with playing a younger character. I wrote a blog about him a few months back. Click here if you want to check that out.

So yeah, I liked this movie. It was cute and funny. There were a lot of dumb things and it wasn’t very realistic, but who cares. I definitely give it a thumbs up.
