David Boreanaz

David Boreanaz

I seem to always confuse David Boreanaz and David Duchovny. My guess is it’s because they were both semi-popular around the same time in the teen mags and I wasn’t a teen at that time. Does anyone else confuse them? Anyway, it doesn’t really matter. I know who they are now because I watch Bones. I’ve started watching Bones on Hulu and really enjoy the show. I love the main character Temperance Brennan because she’s so literal just like me. I get her. It’s fun to see how clueless she is most of the time until I realize that must be what happens to me in real life. Anyhoo, this blog is about the actor who plays her partner, FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth. BTW, where do they get these names? Seeley, Temperance…..

Beginnings

Born David Thomas Boreanaz in Buffalo, New York on May 16, 1969, Boreanaz is the baby of the family. His family consists of two older sisters, mom the travel agent, and dad the TV guy. The last name is of Slovenian origin and was originally Borjanac. I guess Boreanaz is better than Borjanac. David Boreanaz is a bit of a mutt in that he is made up of Italian, Slovak, Irish, German, French, and Swiss. You must admit – he’s a beautiful mutt. Boreanaz excelled at sports in school (he looks like it) and graduated from Ithaca College with a degree in cinema and photography in 1991. Very cool degrees to have……if you can use them in real life.

Boreanaz moved to Los Angeles with his groovy new filmmaking degree and found it difficult to use that degree. I hear you. (Music degree here.) He slept on a couch at his sister’s while taking jobs as extras in movies. His first paid gig was a small part on Married with Children. After that, Boreanaz got the role of Angel in Buffy the Vampire Slayer in 1997. Rumor has it that he was referred for the Buffy role by one of his neighbors who saw Boreanaz walking his dog on a regular basis. Very lucky break. Walk your dogs, people. They need exercise too.

Career

Buffy was super successful which led to a spinoff called Angel. David Boreanaz was now starring in his very own show! I have not watched either of these because I don’t do the whole vampire thing, but maybe I’ll check out an episode or two. Angel ran until 2004 and then…..

The TV show Bones began in 2005. Yay! Bones ran from 2005 until 2017. Holy moly, Batman! That’s a long time to be employed. Boreanaz did other things during this time, including some voice over work, a couple movies, and more. It almost seems like he hasn’t had a day off since 1997.

Boreanaz was not out of work once Bones ended because SEAL Team started just about the time Bones ended. He actually passed on the role the first time it was offered to him. He was just coming off 12 years on the Bones gig. The SEAL Team people were persistent though and eventually landed Boreanaz. Yay!

Personal

David Boreanaz was married for a few years in the late 90’s. It sounds like that marriage was short-lived because his popularity took off. I understand. You marry someone unknown and then within a short amount of time, he becomes famous. I can see how that would change things. After his first marriage ended in 1999, Boreanaz married Jaime Bergman in 2001. Their wedding was delayed a bit due to the 9/11 attack. They have a son and a daughter together.

I read a couple different places (so it must be true, right? ????) that Boreanaz and Bones co-star Emily Deschanel are very good friends. I love that! IMDB quotes him as saying, “Emily has become part of my family. We’re always there for each other.”

I hope you’ve enjoyed learning a bit about David Boreanaz. I think I may need to start watching SEAL Team. I’ll be back next week!
