Tiffany

Tiffany

Could’ve Been by Tiffany was the number one song on this day in 1988. It was the third single released from her self-titled debut album. The other singles released were I Think We’re Alone Now (I remember this from a Full House episode) and Danny. Danny was the first single released but it kind of bombed. She had a winner with I Think We’re Alone Now and then Could’ve Been. With the success of those two singles, her album climbed into the number spot. This knocked out Michael Jackson’s Bad as number one. Not bad for a 16-year-old.

Tiffany Renee Darwish was born in Norwalk, California on October 2, 1971. Her parents divorced when she was quite young and she lived primarily with her dad. She started singing in 1975 when she was just four years old. She then learned the words to Helen Reddy’s (or Tanya Tucker’s) Delta Dawn.

Tiffany was a teen idol in the 80’s along with Debbie Gibson. The idols were usually boys, so this was kind of odd to have girl idols on the covers of Tiger Beat and Teen Beat magazines. She was supposed to have been romantically linked with New Kids on the Block Jonathan Knight, but I think he knew back then that he was gay. I don’t know, but they did make a cute couple.

Star Search

Just before she hit it big with her album in 1987, Tiffany was on Star Search with Ed McMahon in 1985. I used to watch that show all the time! Tiffany did not win but came in second in the female vocalist category. She lost to Melissa Moultrie. I wonder what that person is doing now. She at least has bragging rights.

TT (Tiffany Trivia)

Once successful with pop music, Tiffany now devotes her time to country music. I think she’s a talented person who is a hard worker. I don’t think she’s slutty for posing in Playboy. (Some people think that was a horrible thing for her to do.) I think she felt she needed to do something to get rid of her teen idol status. She needed to show everyone that she was all grown up. “Look at my boobies!” She did it for her art. Yeah, I don’t really know what I’m talking about but I do wish her the best.
