Motley Crue
I’m not even going to pretend I know a lot about Motley Crue. I only know the little I do because of my eBay store. I look up their names when I list the pinups. Before I do any research at all for this blog, I wanted to share with you my limited Motley Crue knowledge. Here is what I think Motley Crue is all about. This is what my brain has chosen to retain from the internet.
- Four members make up the group.
- The members are Vince Neil, Tommy Lee, Nikki Sixx, and Mick Mars.
- They are a heavy metal band popular in the 80’s.
- Popular the same time as Poison and I often get the two confused.
- Vince Neil is the lead man.
- Tommy Lee is the drummer.
- Nikki Sixx plays bass just like Danny Partridge.
- I guess that means Mick Mars plays guitar.
- Vince Neil likes to drink.
- Tommy Lee is a bad boy.
- Tommy Lee was married to Heather Locklear.
- Lee also married Pamela Anderson. Their taped sex scenes were “leaked” to the internet.
- Nikki Sixx had a relationship with Vanity from Prince. My friend was good friends with Vanity. I have stories.
- Vince Neil drove drunk with the drummer of another group and crashed. The drummer in the car with Vince Neil died.
- Mick Mars reminds me of the cartoon character Droopy.
- He also reminds me of the Justin Jeffre of 98 Degrees. By that I mean he didn’t stand out like the others (at least to me). He’s led a life out of the spotlight.
So what do you think? Am I close? In my brief research, here is what I found about Motley Crue.
The Crue
Founded in 1981 by Nikki Sixx and Tommy Lee, Motley Crue shot to fame in 1983. Initially, the band considered calling themselves Christmas. What? Christmas was the brainchild of Nikki Sixx. Mick Mars is the one who came up with the name Motley Crue. The band’s most successful period was during the 80’s. They still recorded during the 90’s but lead singer Vince Neil quit or was fired. I don’t know. With all the drugs and alcohol flowing so freely, how would anyone even know what happened?
Vince Neil eventually joined the band again, but then Tommy Lee left. I remember watching a reality TV show where Lee goes back to school. Does anyone else remember this? It only lasted a few episodes, but he went to college and tried to fit in.
At the end of last year [2019], the band confirmed they were going to get together again and go on tour. They were set to tour this summer [2020] with Def Leppard, Poison, and Joan Jett. I’m sure Covid-19 has ruined that tour but maybe they’ll reschedule. I hope for the fans the guys stay healthy enough to get back out there.
