George Michael

George Michael

George Michael was gay? No way! Was anyone else also not shocked by this revelation? Whatever. It doesn’t matter to me. He was still sexy as hell and a great songwriter. I hate that such a big deal was made when he was forced to come out.

George Michael was born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou (poor thing) on June 25, 1963 in England. He attended Bushey Meads School which is where he met the other half of Wham, Andrew Ridgeley. Wham hit it big in the early 80’s and stayed big until they broke up in 1986. George then went on to have a huge solo career.

George Michael’s first solo album, Faith, was a huge success and one of my favorites. I remember listening to it on my cool Sony portable CD player. Yeah, I was way cool. Two of my favorite songs from that album are Father Figure and One More Try. Lots of memories. He did other solo albums but none were as big for me as Faith.

Beginning of the End

Then things got freaky deaky. George Michael started using public bathrooms for things other than eep eep and oop oop. He was caught engaging in a lewd act in a California bathroom. He was also caught doing drugs in a bathroom. The guy was like a billionaire. Why couldn’t he have done these things in the many homes he must have owned? George Michael said in an interview that he felt fraudulent by hiding his sexuality and that when he was outed (when he was arrested), it was subconsciously a deliberate act. That makes me sad. I hope our world is further along now with sexuality.

George Michael was in a long-term relationship with former cheerleader coach and flight attendant, Kenny Goss. They got together in 1996 and were together over ten years. Michael began a new relationship with Fadi Fawaz in 2012. Fadi was the one who found George Michael’s body on Christmas morning 2016.

George Michael died in bed, hopefully in his sleep, at the age of 53. The autopsy attributed his death to a fatty liver and dilated cardiomyopathy with myocarditis. I’m not a doctor, but I think all of that is usually related to drinking and drug use.

I do miss the Wham days. Things were much more simple back then. George Michael was a teen idol and quite yummy to look at. I loved those jeans and leather jacket. I loved their teeny bopper bumble gum music. Bring back the Wham! Check out Wham and other pinups in my eBay store.

Wake me up before you go-go,
Don’t leave me hanging on like a yo-yo.

You put the boom-boom into my heart,
You send my soul sky-high when your lovin’ starts.
Jitterbug into my brain,
Goes a-bang-bang-bang ’til my feet do the same.
