2010’s Teen Idols

2010’s Teen Idols

Welcome to my final (for now) post in my Teen Idols of the Decades series. I’ve previously blogged about groovy idols from the 1950’s, 1960’s, 1970’s, 1980’s, 1990’s, and 2000’s. If you want to check out any of those decades, please click here. Today’s post is about 2010’s Teen Idols which is basically those from 2010 through today.

I have to admit that I know the least about the teen idols on the ends of my timeline. I wasn’t alive in the 1950’s which is the beginning of this series and I don’t know much about the current idols. I’m a middle school music teacher and try to stay up on all the young idols so that I appear hip to my students, but I’ve really fallen behind.

Justin Bieber

The biggest teen idol of the 10’s (that’s 2010) is Justin Bieber. I remember seeing him for the first time on Ellen. She pronounced his last name wrong. He was an adorable little boy. There seems to be a lot of hate for him but he appears to have a thick skin. I don’t really listen to his music but I think he’s earned his spot. He works hard and has talent. I know he’s done some stupid stuff, but I think he has a good heart. I’m a fan.

Selena Gomez

Another of 2010’s Teen Idols is Selena Gomez. She was Justin Bieber’s love for a long time. I was sad when they parted. She was a child actor (Barney & Friends) with a singing career (or vice versa). I know she’s had some health issues lately. It must be hard to deal with life when you’re in the spotlight. I know I couldn’t handle it.

Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato is another of 2010’s Teen Idols. I’ve seen her on talk shows and think she’s pretty awesome. Like Selena Gomez, she began as a child actress (also Barney & Friends) and had a singing career. She has also had some health issues. I wrote a blog about her that you can read here if you’re interested.

Twilight Kids

Taylor Lautner, Rob Pattinson, and Kristen Stewart all became famous with the Twilight Saga. I thought Taylor was a cute little boy who didn’t seem nearly as cute as he got older. There’s a Taylor blog that you can read here. I saw Pattinson in a few other movies and I think he’s a good actor. He dated Kristen Stewart but they broke up after she decided to date old men.

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift is a bad ass. I love how she uses her music as a weapon. She gets revenge by writing lyrics. Can you imagine if war was fought this way? There would be so much music in the world. She seems to date quite a few men and when it ends, she writes a song. I would be scared to date her if I were a dude. I love how strong she is with life.

Big Time Rush

Big Time Rush was a boy band and a TV show. The group consisted of Kendall Schmidt, James Maslow, Carlos Pena Jr., and Logan Henderson. They recorded several albums and were kind of a hit. I believe the TV show lasted about four years.

One Direction

One Direction was another boy band that hit it big. The boys were Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik. They hit it big after performing on The X Factor in 2010. They have recorded five albums which were all successful. Zayn Malik quit the group in 2015 and the band has been on hiatus since 2016. During this time, many of the boys have gone out on their own and been quite successful.

Some of the other 2010’s Teen Idols that I can think of are Ross Lynch, Miranda Cosgrove, Cody Simpson, Austin Mahone, the cast from Pretty Little Liars, Ariana Grande, Josh Hutcherson, and Miley Cyrus.

My students, in trying to help me with this blog, came up with the following 2010’s Teen Idols: Drake, Tom Holland, Nick Centineo, Sabrina Carpenter, KJ Apa, Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes, Camila Cabello, Fifth Harmony, Maluma, BTS, Ian Somerhalder, Grant Gustin, and Halsey.  None of these names are familiar to me.  I feel so old.

This concludes my blog series….for now.  I guess I’ll be back in about four or five years to write about the 2020’s Teen Idols. Hopefully I’ll see you before then though. I hope you’ve enjoyed my 2010’s Teen Idols blog and this entire series of Teen Idols of the Decade. I’ll be back in two days with, I believe, a Partridge Family blog. See you then!
