Danny Bonaduce

Danny Bonaduce

I got my her did yesterday. I have blonde hair but my hair gets darker as I get older. So, I go in every couple of months and have my icky drab blonde hair lightened up a bit. It seemed like I was under the dryer for far too long while my person took a cigarette break out back. Maybe she had a couple of cigarettes. Maybe she went next door to the bar and had a beer. I’m not sure, but I know she was gone for a long time. Anyway, I now have a few strands of red in my blonde hair. I don’t really like it, but I love my hair person and don’t ever want to hurt her feelings. To make a long story short……this all leads into my blog subject for today. My red hair made me think of Danny Bonaduce from The Partridge Family.

Danny & His Dad

Dante Daniel Bonaduce was born on August 13, 1959 and is probably best known for his role as Danny Partridge on The Partridge Family. His dad was a jealous prick and couldn’t deal with Danny’s success. Therefore, the sweet little tiny red haired boy got beaten by the evil angry jealous father on a regular basis. When asked years later what his hobbies were as a kid, Danny replied “Ducking my father”. I guess there were always problems in the Bonaduce household. Danny’s success on The Partridge Family just made the beatings more severe.

Danny had bit parts on movies and TV shows before auditioning for The Partridge Family. His first acting credit was “Danny Bonaduce as Opie’s friend” on an episode of The Andy Griffith Show. When he got the callback for The Partridge Family, he was placed in one of two test families. Shirley Jones was the mom for both families, but Danny wasn’t in the group with David Cassidy, Susan Dey, and the rest of the Partridges. He was in the other group. I guess the powers that be saw Danny’s cuteness and comedic genius and decided to cast him in the winning group. I always wonder who the Danny was that was originally in that winning group. Who were the actors in the second group? Anyone know?

Danny Partridge

Danny said nice things about working with Jodie Foster, Bobby Sherman, and Wes Stern on The Partridge Family. He said when they weren’t filming, Jodie never spoke English. She only spoke French. She was like 7 years old. That’s pretty awesome. I can count to ten in French. That’s about it. Danny said that Bobby Sherman and Wes Stern (and co-star Brian Forster) were very hard-working guys.

Danny has said that other than his wife and child (I’m guessing this quote was before son Dante was born), The Partridge Family was the best thing to happen to him. I think it’s wonderful that he appreciates the show rather than dissing it and putting it down. I don’t understand why actors do that. There are a lot of former soap stars who are now famous and are embarrassed to admit they acted on a soap. Really? Are you that shallow and insecure?

APF (after Partridge Family)

After The Partridge Family, Danny went on to do a bunch of episodes of CHiPs and lots of other sitcoms and movies. He also started smoking a lot of crack and became homeless. He would sleep in his car near Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood. My ex-husband lived in some crap bag apartment right behind that theater. I think sleeping in his car would have been better. Fewer cockroaches. Danny was in the tabloids a lot for the bad stuff (drugs, fights, etc.), but whatever. He’s a cool dude. I have a lot more to write about him, but will save that for another blog.

I like Danny Bonaduce. He seems like a very honest person.  He doesn’t blame others. God, I hate when people blame others for things. Be a man and own up to your crap. Danny may not be a perfect human being, but that’s okay. That would be way boring. I love his energy, intensity, and honesty. Who would have ever thought that Danny Bonaduce could make a good role model? I think some of these snotty, snooty, crap bag actors could take a lesson from him. I’ll write more about my beloved Danny later. Thanks for reading.
