John Schneider
I just got out of the shower and put on my bright orange General Lee t-shirt. This is my inspiration for today’s writing about John Schneider. I had a thing for John Schneider in the early 80’s. He wasn’t one of my biggest loves, but I did have his pinups and posters taped to my wall.
John Richard Schneider is best known for his role of Bo Duke on The Dukes of Hazzard, but he’s done a lot more. Schneider was born on April 8, 1960 in Mount Kisco, New York. He started acting at a very young age and performed in many plays in New York. He and his mom moved to Atlanta, Georgia when he was 14. (His parents divorced when he was only two.)
John’s first professional acting credit was as an extra in Smokey and the Bandit. I actually recorded this (on VHS) and fast forwarded/rewound trying to find John Schneider. I think I found him but not sure. I think he’s the one driving a jeep (white, I believe) when the whole town is going to play blocker for Bandit. FYI, Smokey and the Bandit is an awesome movie.
Dukes of Hazzard
John Schneider’s big break came when he got the part of Bo Duke on The Dukes of Hazzard in 1979. I guess he lied about his age in order to get the part of Bo Duke. He told the show that he was 24 when he was really only 17. He also showed up in a T-shirt and blue jeans carrying a six pack of beer. Schneider would have been 19 in 1979 so maybe auditions happen a lot earlier than the actual start of a show. I guess it takes time to plan and shoot and stuff.
Schneider is also a very good country singer and has had several number one hits. I’ve heard him cover non-country songs and it was all a bit dorky and square to me. (Think Carlton Banks.) I remember seeing him sing Still (The Commodores) on some awards show. He was scheduled to appear and probably scheduled to sing that song, but I guess he had a fight with his girlfriend earlier that day. He sang the song to her and tried to force out some fake tears. Cheeseball.
John has over 150 acting credits to his name. He has recently starred as Jim Cryer in the TV show The Haves and the Have Nots. John was also Jonathan Kent in Smallville. My ex-husband watched that show. It was about Superman and stuff. The guy playing Clark Kent (Tom Welling) was hot and then showed up thicker on Lucifer.

John Schneider is one of those guys who is always going to look hot. He’ll still be a handsome guy at 80. He’ll look better with each wrinkle he gets.
