Peter Barton
Peter Barton was a brief, and forced, teen idol in the 80’s. He also appeared on a few TV series and movies. One of his first series was in the late 70’s that starred the beautiful Shirley Jones. He also had the title role in the 80’s series The Powers of Matthew Star. FYI, he beat out none other than Mr. Tom Cruise for that role. He’s also had juicy roles on Burke’s Law, Sunset Beach, and other TV shows. I know him as Dr. Scott Grainger from my soap opera The Young and the Restless.
Dr. Scott Grainger showed up on the scene in Genoa City in the late 80’s and fell in love with the daughter of one of his patients. They became engaged until they discovered that he was her half-brother. Gross. Scott moved on and married Lauren but also messed around with crazy nurse Sheila. Slut. Both women became pregnant with Scott’s child. Crazy Sheila’s baby was born stillborn so of course she stole Lauren’s baby and pretended it was her own. Scott married Sheila and then he eventually died. Bummer.
Beginnings
Peter Thomas Barton was born on July 19, 1956 in Valley Stream, New York. He attended Nassau Community College and studied chiropractic medicine and then pharmacology. He was accepted into St. John’s University’s medical school but just before signing up for classes, he decided to pursue a career in modeling and acting. After a few modeling assignments, Barton moved to Hollywood to begin his acting career.
Teen Idol
Peter talks about how the teen magazines were so hungry for the next teen heartthrob that they pummeled him. He was on the cover of Tiger Beat, 16, Teen Beat, and all the others. He was often put in some sort of sexy pose without his shirt on. Yay! He was 22 but they were saying he was only 19. I guess that makes him cuter and more in the reader’s age range.
Peter Barton dated Lisa Rinna in the late 80’s or early 90’s. They were cute together. This was before she did all the crazy stuff to her lips. It was also before she married Harry Hamlin.
Money
Barton made the news in 2012 when a fan left him half a million dollars in his Will. He also left the same amount to actor Kevin Brophy. That’s bizarre but kind of cool. I think I’ll leave my millions to Ian Mitchell or Tony DeFranco. Oh, wait. I’m a middle school teacher. I don’t have any money. Someone put me in their Will.
Peter Barton was a cute guy and a decent actor. He had his 15 minutes of fame and did an admirable job. I believe he is now living in the Los Angeles area and is doing something in the field of fitness. Scott Grainger is still mentioned from time to time on The Young & the Restless. In that respect, he will live on for many years.
