The Brady Bunch Episode #29

The Brady Bunch Episode #29

Welcome to my review of The Brady Bunch Episode #29! This episode is called The Un-Underground Movie and originally aired on October 16, 1970. It’s about when Greg makes a movie about the pilgrims for his history class.

The show opens with Bobby and Cindy swinging on the swings in the backyard while Carol appears to be having a seizure. Mike is recording it all with his cool movie camera. Greg with his big alien eyes rides up on his bike. He talks to his parents about his groovy history teacher. He’s excited about an upcoming assignment and wants to make a movie about the pilgrims using Dad’s movie camera.

Mike and Carol are in bed and hear a typewriter. It sounds like it’s very close but it’s Greg all the way down in the family room. No way is it that loud. Stupid scene. Anyway, Greg is working on his screenplay for his movie. The taking over of Greg’s history assignment begins. Mike sits down and starts typing. Carol has her opinion on what should happen and then Alice joins in. I hate parents that do their children’s homework.

Bitch Fest

Greg goes to pass out the parts for his movie to the girls and they have a big ole bitch fest. If they can’t be Priscilla, they’re not doing the movie. He then gives parts to the boys and they both want to be Indians. All the girls want to be Priscilla and all the boys want to be Indians. When the adults try to help, Greg says, “Well I don’t want any more help. I’m getting helped out of everything I want to do. I want to write my own screenplay, design my own sets, choose my costumes, and pick the actors. Don’t you see? It’s my project.” He then calls the movie off and the serious background music begins to play.

Filming day is here and there are still issues, but as in Brady fashion, everything works out. Ann B. Davis is very comical in all of her filming. Alice does a costume change from a man to a woman but forgets to remove her facial hair. Oops. Peter is in charge of creating the snow in the next scene. He keeps making the snow appear when it’s not time. When it is time, he can’t get it to work. When he dumps the entire box of fake snow out, you can see the board that was covering up the holes. Oops.

Success

The history project is done! The entire family views the movie, complete with popcorn. It was really cute to get the family together and create this, but I can’t believe they would go to all that trouble for a homework assignment. There were sets created, costumes made, money spent on a bunch of corn flakes and instant mashed potatoes (for the snow), and more. It’s just not realistic.

The tag is of Greg coming home from school. He’s now studying the American Revolution and already has plans for his next movie. Carol wonders what happens next year when they have to reenact The Civil War. Canned laughter happens. The end.

While I enjoyed Ann B. Davis is this episode, it was one of my least favorite ones. How about you? Did you like The Brady Bunch Episode #29? Drop me a line and let me know, and be sure to check out my Brady items in my eBay store.
