Teen Pinups

One of my big hobbies passions obsessions is collecting and selling teen pinups. I think I enjoy this so much because it brings me back to my youth when everything was so simple and easy. My favorite teen idol crush often times was whoever my big sister Lori was into at the time. I’m sure that annoyed her. I would love to go grocery shopping with my mom because I got to go look at all the new teen magazines while she did her shopping. This was back in the day when you didn’t have to worry about someone stealing your kid. Mom would always let me get the newest issue of Tiger Beat and 16 and whatever other mags had teen pinups of cute boys. I guess I was a tad bit spoiled now that I think about it.

Upon arriving home from the grocery store, I would immediately cut up my magazines. The one-page teen pinups would be taped all over the walls and closet doors in my bedroom. I guess my parents were okay with me taping things to the wall.  🙂  Spoiled.

I have listed a few of my most favorite teen pinups of all time below. Please enjoy, and I would love to hear about your favorite pinups from childhood.

UPDATE:  I’ve removed all images from this blog post so it will not be as wonderful.  Sorry!  Please use your imagination. 🙂

Tony DeFranco

My most favorite and memorable pinup from childhood is this one of Tony DeFranco. It was the back cover of the September 1973 Tiger Beat. This teen pinup did not get put on the walls or the doors of my closet. It was taped to the bottom shelf directly above my bed. I looked at Tony every night before I went to sleep.  I had previously crushed on Jon Provost (Timmy from Timmy & Lassie) and Jeremy Gelbwaks (the first Chris Partridge on The Partridge Family). To be honest, my attraction to Timmy (Jon Provost) was his cute dimples. I think I only liked Jeremy because he was a drummer. My first real grown up crush where I thought I was in love was with Tony DeFranco. I imagined marrying him and becoming Mrs. DeFranco.

Leif Garrett

I know David Cassidy and Donny Osmond were the big teen idols of the 1970’s, but nothing screams the 70’s to me more than this pinup of Leif Garrett. Leif has the surfer dude pooka shell thing going on in this teen pinup. I’ve used this as my profile pic for ZTAMS on many social media sites. What a cutie.  This is one of the earliest pinups of Leif when he was on Three for the Road.  It’s before his rocker and drug use days.  Adorable.

Ian Mitchell

I really did not like the Bay City Rollers when they first hit my teen magazines. I couldn’t understand what all the hoopla was about. Their clothes seemed dumb and I didn’t find the boys attractive at all. Then Alan Longmuir quit and new guy Ian Mitchell joined the band. Oh my goodness. I was suddenly a huge fan of the Rollers. This pinup was my favorite of Ian’s because he looks gorgeous (duh) AND my name is on there. Ian and Tam. I think that means we were meant to be together.

Do you have a teen pinup that you remember fondly from childhood? Send me the info (ztams@comcast.net) and I’ll add it to this blog. Please check out my many teen pinups in my eBay store.
