The Brady Bunch Episode #27

The Brady Bunch Episode #27

Welcome to my BB review! The Brady Bunch Episode #27 originally aired on October 2, 1970 and is called The Babysitters. Mmmm……I wonder what this one is about.

The show opens with Carol walking into the kitchen as Alice tends to some ugly green polka dotted curtains. Alice tells Carol that she’s helping her boyfriend decorate his apartment. Carol thinks they’re a little frilly and more for a woman, but that’s Alice’s intent. Smart lady.

Mike comes home early and Carol freaks out. She runs out to greet him and truly seems happy that he’s home. I used to have a dog who acted that way. It made me feel special. Mike is home early because he has tickets to something that’s been sold out for weeks. Carol is very excited about the show but tells Mike they can’t go. Alice is helping Sam decorate his new apartment so the parents will need to stay home and babysit.

Babysitter

Mike and Carol move into the kitchen while discussing their predicament. Greg and Marcia are off to the side chowing down on cookies when they hear Mom and Dad talk about getting them a babysitter. They later talk in the boys’ room about their plan of attack and how they don’t want a babysitter.

Greg and Marcia go back downstairs to find mom and dad canoodling in the kitchen. Gross. Greg tells his parents that he and Marcia feel they’re too old for a babysitter. He’s 14 and Marcia is 13. “Kids our age ARE babysitters.” Mike and Carol agree and then Greg surprises them when he tells them that babysitters get 75 cents an hour. Each.

Carol is letting the other kids know that Greg and Marcia will be in charge of them tonight. Bobby asks which one is supposed to help him with his bath. At what age do you stop needing help with your bath? Bobby seems kind of old for that. I don’t know. I’m not a parent.

Thniffles

Cindy does a little sniff and mom freaks out. “Are you coming down with the sniffles?” Hey Carol. Maybe Thindy isn’t sick. She could have just snorted a line. Chill out.

Mike quizzes Greg on various emergencies. Greg knows everything. Mike then does a Stranger at the Door drill with Bobby. It’s pretty cute. I love Mike Lookinland.

The scene shows all the adults ready for their evening out. Carol looks beautiful in her little black dress. Alice is dressed like an old maid. Sam drives up and starts honking. How rude. Get your butt out of the car and come to the door. I guess they didn’t want to pay Allan Melvin for this episode. The adults are all worried and don’t want to leave because of Cindy’s sniffles. Seriously?

Mike and Carol are at dinner but all Carol can think about is Thindy’s Thniffles. She lies to Mike and tells him her dress is falling apart and needs to go to the restroom. Instead, she’s going to the payphone to call home. (FYI, the number she dials is 222-1116.)  The line is busy because Jan has been talking to Gloria all night. Mike’s turn to lie. “That looks like Charlie Hoffman. I haven’t seen him in years.” He leaves the dinner table to talk to Charlie which is code for going to the payphone to call home. Do happily married people really lie to each other this much? Mike and Carol continue to lie to each other and call home. The line is still busy.

Po Po

Mike and Carol decide to skip dinner and go home and check on the kids. They have a change of heart once they get there because they think Greg and Marcia will think they’re lame babysitters. Mike trips over all the crap in the backyard. Greg hears the noise and calls the police. Then Alice sneaks through a gate in the backyard that I’ve never seen before. Mike jumps on her and she screams. The police have shown up by that time and arrest all the adults. Kidding.

The Brady Bunch Episode #27 was just okay for me. This is the second episode of season two and so far I’m not loving it. What about you? Thanks for stopping in and reading. I appreciate it.
